From idea to shoe: how a Mascolori design is made

A Mascolori shoe rarely starts with the question: what is everyone else already selling? More often it starts with material, an unexpected colour, a work of art, an old shoe shape or something simply too interesting to ignore.

1. The idea starts in Rotterdam

This is where shape, colour, material and character come together. Sometimes we start with a classic pointed last, sometimes with jacquard, cork or a print that refuses to fit neatly into a category.

2. Then it has to become a real shoe

A good idea is not yet a good product. The last, sole, lining, construction and material all need to work together. We develop the design with the manufacturer so that the idea works as a shoe.

3. All Mascolori shoes are made in Portugal

Portugal has many specialised shoemakers and experience with smaller production runs. That suits a brand that has no wish to make thousands of identical pairs. Read more about our production in Portugal.
